Default **Help**Any electricians in the Hampton area??

I was installing some storage racks in my garage when I missed a stud by half an inch and hit a wire. I heard a pop and the lights downstairs cut off. After I pulled the screw out I noticed it was charred so I cut open the drywall some to look at the damage.

The house I moved out of last year went up in flames due to bad wires behind the breaker box so I'm definitely scared. Is this a simple repair or should I call an electrician? Anyone up to fix this for a case of beer or something?

I'm not half assing it with electrical tape. I just spoke to my friend from work that built an addition to his house and did all the electrical work and he's going to help me out tomorrow. He said it sounds like 14 guage 2 wire, and I just need to cut and splice it. But to keep it in code, a box needs to be installed at the break and I'll just keep a blank wallplate over it once its spliced.
