it should be measured in two separate places 90 degrees apart. I used to measure "near" the middle, but all of the treads should be above the minimum. It's hard to argue with an inspector when they fail a tire, they'll just say it's a safety issue and the State Police will usually agree I believe.

Wrong.

The tread is checked in 3 places along the width of the tire. All three have to be above 2/32's on a tread depth gauge.

Damn, what inspection places are you guys going to. The last one I had the guy pulled my rear tire, checked my rear brake, put the tire back on and lowered the car back down. I have never seen them check my tread in the past 3 inspections I have done. The only issue I had was the guy forgot to put one of my lug nuts back on. I got home and noticed it was gone and had to drive back for it. Not the best thing in the world, but at least I have 5 lugs.

On the topic of inspections, is it required to have front side markers?

I believe that you have to have a marker/signal that is visible from both the front and the side... It either has to have a front and a side marker light or it has to have a corner light. In order to pass... but if a light it there.. it has to work or you fail!

Do you have ambers in your headlights?
Because one of my 2g talons originally came with no side markers and it passed fine. Mainly b/c i think those are optional???
