and as for your job hunting...the company i work for is hiring all the time...in fact the owner comes up to me everyday and asks if i know anyone who wants a job.
Our company is called Auxiliary Systems Inc. Our shop is located in norfolk off of church street. I'm a shop machinist for the company but we do all kinds of things. Most of our work is government contracting for the navy boats in all shipyards.we do everything from maintenance on plate packs (basically a radiator) in the evaporators. We acid flush hydraulic coolers for the catapaults on carriers..and so much more. if youre interested, send me a PM and ill give you more info. Our hours are M-F 630-330, and depending on what youll be hired as, theres always overtime to be made. (2 guys got 36 hours of overtime last week acid flushing on the roosevelt...)

let me know.

Seriously, I gave up a lucrative "career" in the IT field because I hated the whole industry. If you don't like the same stuff day in/day out same stupid problems all the time, don't consider it.

Now, since then, I have done three things which I love more than anything else and intend to stick to them:

General contracting
Weapons Instructor
Chef.

I can say that the culinary field is always hiring. I don't mean places like Applebees. I mean places like Parallel 36, Bobbywood, 456 Fish, etc.

If you like to cook, consider culinary school. It is also quite a portable career. You won't work 8-5 Monday through Friday, and you will work weekends, but you will still definitely have a night life.

I feel the same way about my job. School doesn't like me at all.

Being in retail really wears me down. I'm used to 10+ hour shifts 5 days a week so working a lot is never a problem for me. I am just worn out from being a manager of a computer store. I need something that really tests my personal skills versus my ability to hold people accountable to their work/skills.

Any good jobs out there that will at least pay 35K+ a year that would likely hire someone with manager experience in retail and with quite a bit of knowledge on computers?

I think some of the problem is that people don't want to pay their dues.

They don't want to work 3-5 years at a low level pay.

They don't want to get an education.

They don't want to work shitty entry-level schedules.

It's not a fantasy world. Without a degree or military experience, it's quite rare to just walk into a 9-5, 35k a year job unless you want to do commissioned sales.

I have a 35k a year job with retarded hours, so I dont want that anymore. I'll take a drastic pay cut as long as its something that I can eventually support myself and a family with, but I do not want to work every single saturday and sunday for years and years, and have to put off for ONE weekend day off 3-4 months in advance to get it.

I understand paying my dues, and I dont mind that, but I'm not going to put up with a retarded schedule, especially when I hate my job.

Honestly dude NGNN isnt that bad of a place to work. nd don't worry about that TCC thing if you graduated high school your straight. And the test they give before you get hired is basically the equivalent of a 5 grade exam. They isnt bad and if you start working there then apply for the apprenticeship you have a better chance of getting in than outright applying
