I moved to Gainesville this year for college. My apartment is pretty standard in terms of pricing for a college town. My friends at JMU who pay similar rates have mediocre apartments with gross, beat up furniture, shitty clubhouses/pool etc.
For close to the same price in Gainesville my apartment comes with a 46" plasma TV, a sand bottom lagoon style pool with waterfalls, brand new stylish furniture, nice gym etc etc.
The cost of living in Florida is a little higher but the standard of living is MUCH higher.
