Need to borrow an impact
Here we go again...
I have 2 axle nuts that are pretty tight.
I need to borrow an impact, preferably a higher PSI one.
Mine is a craftsman, rated at 90 psi and it's not doin the trick.
I can't crack em with my breaker bar either, I'm a strong guy but the car is too low and my back is too bad.
My compressor will go to 140psi, so the closer to that, the better.
I will gladly compensate whoever can help me out, I just need to get these damn nuts off ASAP.

Re: Need to borrow an impact
just keep trying eventually they'll break loose, mine was stuck as a bitch.. soak it with squirrel piss first..
i put the impact on there and used up the air in the compressor like 6 times and then that time the nut started turning..
or put a long metal pipe on the end of your breaker for more leverage

Re: Need to borrow an impact
Take the handle off of your jack and slip it over your breaker bar... soak the axle nut w/ PB Blaster or similar first. If that doesn't work you can try heating it up with a small torch.
When I prepped my Z06 last summer I had no issues getting the axle nuts off, but I had a hell of a time seperating the wheel hub from the splined end of the axle. Ended up using a gear puller and lots of PB Blaster.
I assume your air gun is one of those free-bees that come w/ a compressor? They're dogshit... they suck. I never used my air tools for years because the impact gun wouldn't even break a 100 ft/lb lugnut free. Get a good airgun and you'll love it.

Re: Need to borrow an impact
I bought my airgun by itself, I've only ever had an issue where it wasn't strong enough once before.
I know all the little secrets to breaking a nut/bolt loose, trust me, I've never encountered a piece of hardware I couldn't get free, that could be anyways.
Like I said, it's more that the car is too low, and my back is too bad to be hunched over, fighting these things the way I am.
I've ran my compressor down on each nut, atleast 10 times today, they haven't budged at all.
Well 1 I did move by hand, but I can't do that again (ouch..)

Re: Need to borrow an impact
No one has told me anything I wasn't already aware of, if I had a piece of pipe that would fit on the end of my breaker bar, the nuts would be off already.
and I don't have a torch to heat it up, I could try to rig something to heat the nut from a car battery (i.e "Emergency Arc Welding") but I doubt that will work like I need it to.
So I really just need a nice impact, easiest way to accomplish what I need.
but if someone wants to loan me a big piece of pipe, I suppose I'd try it.
I wish I weigh more than 160, jumping on the breaker bar wasn't doin it either.
and yeah, I soaked them both in PB after they wouldn't move the first try, and I tried to tighten them some too...

Re: Need to borrow an impact
Do local auto parst stores rent impacts? I had to install a new balljoint in my RR LCA and borrowed the kit from the Advanced closest to my house. They put a hold on your CC until you return the tool.

Re: Need to borrow an impact
haha if I can't get an impact, I may do that tomorrow, I just can't take forever gettin this motor out.
I could just say fuck the axles, and worry about the seized ends later.
I mean, I'd only have to re assemble the joints and re boot them
