Quick synopsis:
Wacky Wednesdays give you a chance to drive the track in a couple of different ways. First, is the Time Attacks. Basically it's a qualifying lap. Just you making one lap. You come out of pit road, go around to the start line where you'll get the green flag and make one lap crossing the finish line and returning to the pit road entrance. Then there is the burn out competition. It's been pretty lame this year, but it's usually a pretty easy 50 bucks to the winner. Some nights we don't have any entrants in that. The crowd seems to like it usually. The headline attraction is the One on One drags. the track is divided into a inside and outside lane and it's basically an oval track drag race. We'll put the faster car on the outside usually to even things out. The drivers have to stay in their lanes.
Now for the down sides. There are walls out there. BIG HARD WALLS! They will screw up a car, BAD! So far this year, they've claimed a S2000, a 240SX and a VW Rabbit convert. A few other drivers have had pretty decent bumps as well. I can honestly say, ALL wall contact has been driver error. Most were people driving over their heads. If you remember you ain't Dale Jr., or Tony Stewart you'll be fine. Hell, if nothing else, come out and run the time attack, then run the One on Ones and when they throw the green, just let the other guy go, and drive a safe lap. You'll go to the "B" main and get another shot. Do the same thing. When they throw the green, let the other guy go and just make a safe simple lap.
It's 15 bucks and you'll have a blast.
On the other hand NASA Mid Atlantic (the racers not the astronauts) has two more autocrosses at the track this year. One on November 11 and a charity event in December. We usually give entrants a minimum of 8 runs so you'll get plenty of track time. For more info you can check out the forums at www.autocross.us
