Yama's isn't too bad for sushi. I actually like it a lot. Its way better than Fire Ninja, their rolls are kinda generic and not authentic.
For sushi I would recommend:
This Old House Japanese Restaurant
309 Aragona Blvd # 118
Virginia Beach, VA 23462-2700
(757) 518-8888
This is a nice mom & pop sushi place that is actually owned by a japanese guy. Uber fresh sushi and very friendly staff.
I'm suprised nobody had Vietnamese Pho listed (from what I saw):
Pho 79
4816 Virginia Beach Blvd
Virginia Beach, VA
(757) 687-7844
The Pho here is excellent. Very fresh ingredients and a variety of different items if you don't want soup, like rice or noodles. Once I tried it I was hooked so give it a shot. I usually the the #8. A small bowl is $6.75 and a large bowl for $7.99. They also have t-shirts for sale ($12) that say "Pho King good!". Its kinda hidden but its right off Va Beach Blvd in the Aragona Shopping Center.
Good food, nice atmosphere, live music:
HK on the Bay (Hell's Kitchen)
4600 Lookout Rd.
Virginia Beach, VA 23455
(757) 605-3022
This place has an awesome bar, good atmosphere, and nice artwork. The staff is super friendly and there's a live band on the weekends. Its a full nonsmoking facility but they do have an outdoor deck/patio where you can smoke. I would recommend the Hawaiian Ribeye Steak, its fucking delicious! Their appetizers are really good too.

Re: Official Good Restaurants in the 757
I haven't read through this thread but here's my top restaurant list:
-Kyushu (sushi, the most authentic Japanese food in the area guaranteed, Lunch time has the best prices but gets very crowded - VERY MUCH worth the wait) - off Newtown Rd next to VA Hydroponics
-Siam 21 (Tai, blows Bangcock out of the water, I don't think this place owns a freezer, again lunch time is cheaper and this place is somehow rarely busy people need to go here!!) - off 21st Street by the GW Market
-Tortilla West ('Mexican', the best mexican place I've eaten at on the East Coast, Monday and Tuesday = 75 cent beef and bean tacos - they also have an amazing beer list) - off Orpax Rd near the mid-town Tunnel in Norfolk (Orpax is right over there as well and they have decent Greek food)
-Luna Maya (Bolivian [very similar to Mexican but better], I've never had a single bad thing off their menu) - off 21st street near Sherwin Williams and Hardeys
-Jade Villa (Chinese, basically my favorite Chinese food place, they have two menus, a specials board and Dim Sum on the weekends with little carts and everything) off Independence near Pembroke Mall in a small shopping center
-There is a Korean place in Portsmouth off Airline blvd in a neighborhood (by where AIK was) I don't remember the name of it and I don't have much experience with Korean food, but I highly recommend this place!
-Pizza Box (fantastic, legit Pizza, the guy is straight from New York) it is over in 'Port Norfolk' in Portsmouth near the Mid-Town Tunnel.
Anyway, I am really into food and am willing to eat just about anything, so if anyone has been to these places and can recommend places of this caliber please let me know!
