Default SR20DET stuttering and backfiring issue

To make a long story short, I just got my 240sx back on the road recently after the swap. Was running fine, but then started having a minor stuttering issue. It would drive fine but kind of lose power, but I could boost through it. Progressively got worse. Tried a couple things and ended up disconnecting the Throttle Position Sensor and it ran like new...for a week. Replaced the TPS, and the problem was still there. Now, when initially turning the car on it runs ok until it warms up. Then it can't really get out of 1st gear. It stutters, jerks and backfires.
I really need someone who knows SR20's and is very reliable that can come by and help me out. I'd pay for your time. Taking it to a shop isn't an option for me right now.
Anyone in the area able to give me a hand?

You tried changing the 2 prong ECU water temp sensor? Since you said it runs better when the engine is cold and gets progressively worst as it gets hotter, I'd start with that.

Haven't tried that. Don't know exactly where that is. Also forgot to mention the gas smell it has when I start it up. Don't know if that has anything to do with the issue.

Look at the lower radiator hose, follow it to the engine, that will be the SR thermostat housing. Roughly on top of that, there should be 2 plugs. One is a single wire and the other next to it is a square 2 wire sensor. Replace the 2 wire sensor. You should be able to order it from Nissan off any SR20DE car like the Sentra SER or 200sx.

That's the one. But I wouldn't order one from Autozone. Go hit up a dealership. They cost about the same IIRC and will last a lot longer. Plus Nissan color codes them from the factory, make sure yours is red.

+1 on getting this part from the dealer. I wouldnt trust an autozone sensor on something that can cause alot of issues down the road. That sensor and the gauge water temp sensor...always get those 2 from the dealer. Autozone only has 1 part number for the gauge cluster sensor, even tho they're chassis specific between S13 and S14. You slap an S13 sensor on an S14 and it will show that its overheating when its not. Same thing with the thermostat...get it from Napa or Carquest since those are OEM.

It's your fuel map, it's got a nasty hole. That's why your unloading in third.
