Turbo'd 420A's???

Re: Turbo'd 420A's???
The reason you hear about people having a lot of problems while boosting the 420A is mainly due to 2 reasons. First being that the person just slapped a HRC or Star kit on and thought that was it. Or B, they never did a compression test to see how good of condition their motor was in before boosting it. You want to make sure you motor is pretty sound before adding more stress to it.
If the person has researched it enough you usually don't run into many issues. I mean there are always going to be issues....the motor was never meant to be boosted.
The results are definately worth it.
For those of you that have 2gnt 420A's and thought about boosting it, I recommend the following sites as reference information.
www.2gnt.com
www.dsmtuners.com
On a side note if there are any 1st or 2nd gen eclipses/talons that plan on heading to the Shoot Out this year let me know. We are setting up a caravan to head up! For those that don't know what the Shoot Out is, its a full weekend of nothing but Eclipse/Talon racing.
For more information on the SO you can find it on 2gnt.com.

Has anyone else seen my black 97 Talon at the beach? It had black GSX rims w/polished lip and dark tinted windows... wingless too, and canister style exhaust. I last heard it blew Mikey's BMW out of the water .

Re: Turbo'd 420A's???
Its really nothing to be scared of IMO!
Bascially you will want to replace the craptech fpr that comes with the kit as well as their dp. Other then that you will be fine. Good thing is people are selling used Hahn and Star kits with everything I mentioned below already upgraded for you, and for a great price. You can find these on 2gnt.com and dsmtuners.com as well in the for sale sections.
The only things I upgraded from the stock HRC stage 2 kit was:
FMIC from the side mount (not really needed but helps out during summer months)
Vortech SFMU from the craptech (its really called cartech, but you get the point!)
Custom 2.5 dp with flex section from the Hahn dp
Also you will want to get a Missing Link (MAP sensor block so car's ECU doesn't see boost and freak out)
Couple other things I upgraded that are not nessacary but help!
310cc injectors ( Not required but good to have. I upgraded so you my stockies wouldn't be so close to max dc)
walbro 255lph HP fp
Other then that you will be fine up to 8psi. Anymore then 8psi you will need to upgrade your internals. But 8psi will put you around the 200 to 220 whp range.
If you have any other questions or issues I would be more then happy to answer them for you!

Re: Turbo'd 420A's???
Yeah, it was funny when I use to pull up to some of my friends' buddies, "Oh man, is it AWD?!".
"Pfsh! it'd have to be a turbo model first."
?????
Pop the hood, and they see a 420A and go through a brainfart.
I'll never forget when a friend of mine asked..."So do they make those 3 wheel drive?". Swear to you, he was serious. When people started laughing he got pissed. I couldn't imagine telling someone,"yeah, I made 215 '3whp'."
I've seen some 420A with 100k+ miles and run fine for several months. You just have to treat it like a car and not a damn indi machine, do your regular check-ups and maintenance. Definitely worth the time though.
Go to an auction, pick up a low mileage GS or RS and boost with these cheap Star and HRC kits as Aggression said. You'll more than likely get your money back when y ou sell later... I only lost $200 after owning it for a year.

Re: Turbo'd 420A's???
The stock injectors in the 420A are only 235cc. With the 310cc running 7psi puts the idle psi at 23 which is pretty decent. Once you start uppin the boost is when you might want to start looking into one of the 3 most popular fuel setups for the 420A.
- 8 Injector setup
- Hahn Portfueler
- Megasquirt (also allows you to adjust timing as well!)
