FWIW, a few months ago in James City County I completely forgot about paying/going to court for something minor, front plate ticket I think. Went in a week after my date, told the clerk lady I completely blanked about it, and she let me just pay the fine. No late fees, court costs, etc.
Chalk it up to her being in a good mood or me being amazingly handsome.

There is no "failure to appear" for a prepayable ticket.
I just went through this a few weeks ago.
They will find you guilty in your absence and send a bill to your house. They give you something like ten days to pay it or they suspend your license.
The court website says you have to no less than five days prior to the court date, but they don't do anything to you if you miss it except add another $55 or something to the fine for court costs.

ok so i got a defective equipment ticket 2 weeks ago and i was going to prepay it tonight, court is tomorrow morning, but i found out i would of had to of payed it by 3pm today to prepay it. my question is, if my court date is tomorrow at 8:30am, can i just stop by after im done with my classes around noon and pay it ? will there be any late fees or will they be coming after me already for "no show" ?

99.999999% of the time GDC will just find you guilty in absentia, but you do run the (very small risk) that they'll give you a fail to appear and issue a capias.
