Pretty much the same recommendation I would have given.

If you can find one, MazdaSpeed Protege, or mayhaps a non STI WRX
I love my msp, its not the fastest out but its fast enough for fun, and it handles extreemly well. It struck me as very well balanced for a factory car.

No I am not kidding on the roomy. I'm 6'3 and 250 and I had plenty of space in mine. Unless you're like 6'5 or more or you're a huge fat ass, the car has plenty of interior space. Leather, climate control, heated side mirrors and power everything is pretty luxurious to me.

OMG, I'm going to recommend a BMW because that's what everyone else is doing, recommending their own car.

Some of these cars you can't get NEW for 20k and below.

RSXS and TSX are both mid 20's.

The Tib SE would a good idea, as well as an mazda3. I think GM is offereing America's Best Warrenty now so you could go get yourself a nice Cobolt. The VW camp is pretty good, but they can quickly get above 20 if you add options.

How about a new civic? non-si.
A new Tiburon SE is better in every cateory than every car you just listed. And about america's est warranty i think that is hyundai unless GM offers the same thing as 10year or 100k mile powertrain and 5 year 60k mile bumper to bumper.

I must admit though, I like the new Tiburons, but a Cobalt SS is a way better car.
