FWD 1/4 milers?

Re: FWD 1/4 milers?
See i think thats partly why its not so big over here.....
We don't use V8's, in fact, we've only recently got the Holden Monaro over here, one of the first V8's.... Most popular cars are small 4 pot engines.... Boostlag, when you say no real gain, can you expand? Taking a 150bhp engine and tuning it to 250-300bhp witout any forced induction? Put that into a car weighing under a tonne, thats a lot of power to weight.
Someone said about Porkies.... Ahhhhh, but they go round corners as well
Cosworth, not tooooooo popular tbh. They are highly used cars in the community, but not really a "drag" car... More used on track days. You do see lots of them about though. Most of them these days are fecked though... (thrashed)...
Saying that though, not to long ago a guy used a RWD Sapphire Cosworth, around 650, plus another 100 shot of laughing gas, 207mph.... Recently went pop though......
Just compared to other cars out there, the cosworth is getting a little dated (not to say i still don't love the engine and esp in a (UK) Escort).

Ok. well over here...the guys that do N/A setups on Hondas/acuras,will build a motor..spending anywhere from 5 to 7000 dollars on cams, headwork, pistons, block work, headers, exhaust, etc. and then they will get on the dyno...and put out :
195whp 134ftlbs torque
or
187whp 134ftlbs torque
or in rare cases
205whp 140 ftlbs torque
I mean..maybe in a 1900 lb car it might be considered fast or quick..but in a 2600 lb integra..its probably only good for 13's.
As far as Power for price..there is no other substitute for a turbo. at 10psi UNTUNED i made 210whp and 173 ft lbs of torque. and it wasnt the hp that made my car pull hard,it was the torque...and with an N/A setup..that torque is never there..which is why i dont like setups like that..having to wait until 3rd gear for your powerband to be in full effect..as opposed to having a turbo..blowing through first gear..and then pulling hard through every other gear.
i just believe that if you are going to drag race a FWD 4 cylinder car,or a honda specifically..you are either going to need a Turbo,or a K20 swap. All motor just doesnt do it for me.

lot's of torque i guess gives you that instant gratification when you step on it, that false sense of feeling that you have a fast car, but good things come to those who wait and when i get into my powerband my little 1.6 liter screams and it is always extremely gratifying.

Turbos give the torque in one big hit....
A well setup NA car should have less torque, but a flat line of delivery most of the way up the rev range...
I've know perfectly flat torque lines from lie 1500rpm - 8000rpm odd....
But the overall number will be less than that of a turbo car... Turbo's aren't always better.?
I think the turbo may be better for 1/4 miles, but NA for track action.

that was the dumbest shit ive ever heard in my life.
that goes on the wall, right next to "I live my life a quarter mile at a time"
so you want me to believe that,if i put a B16 in my car..with all 102 ft lbs of torque..that when i race it at the track,i am going to be satisfied when i wait until after the 1/8 mile,to feel a TINY bit of pull as i cross the 1/4 mile running a 15.4? get the fuck outta here..Torque wins races.

Re: FWD 1/4 milers?
and whats with all the "i love when vtec screams @ 11,000 rpm" bullshit..i hear too many people say that, like its a drastic change in power..i could understand a turbo spooling..but to hear vtec,is very common, and doesnt make me nut myself like it apparently does to you.

that comment is about as over used as "there is no replacement for displacement". there are always exceptions
if your car is a boat your gonna need gobs of torque to pull it and the fat ass driving it down road

ok,since its overused,how about this one :
A fully built B16 vs. a Fully built GSR. which motor wins?
