How do you wash your detail/shop rags/towels? At home? Any risk?

If you have a pre-wash cycle use it, otherwise you might want to soak the rags before washing. Also if you have an extra rinse cycle that'd be good to run as well.

If you're worried about bleach, go with an oxyclean type product instead.

My washer says not to wash and oils or gas covered stuff in the warning label under the lid.

^yeah...pre-soak/pre-wash warm to hot water....and oxyclean.

I keep rags/detail stuff pretty well separated. The red rags stay nasty, but wash up nice. Microfibers also clean up nice, and the haggard ones move to engine/wheel duty.

This...

I washed a load of grease/heavy detail/soiled rags in the washer one time and it left a film in the washer... But I cleaned out the washer and ran a couple cap fulls of bleach through a full wash cycle and was good to go... I find it works best to wash the rags w/ a load of work jeans...
