Looking at STI's...

Re: Looking at STI's...
ive had my car for a little over two years.
nothing has gone wrong what so ever.
of course, i take care of my car and do regular maintenance. no cracked windshield. tranny is fine. i have a few paint chips but my car only has 20k miles after two years so i rarely drive it.
only thing i had subaru fix was squeaky windows but the noise came back again.

Re: Looking at STI's...
^^ You are correct. Its a decent forum if you want in depth information on a certain problem but for basic information I'd say look elsewhere.. If you are seriously interested in STis check out IWSTI.com, great group of STi enthusiasts.. not asshats.
I have currently owned my STi for about a year.. no problems as of yet. The windshield is an issue because cracks are more easily dispersed across the glass because of the stiff chassis. Occasional creaks/rattles that a little DIY can fix. The car is basically bulletproof in stock form and can hold a lot of power. Once you go upgraded turbo/ fuel/ etc... the drivetrain starts taking a beating. Gearing isn't great for 1/4 mile runs but its plenty fast for me and these cars haul ass around a track or auto-x. Theres tons of information out there on these cars. All I can say is that the Pros drastically outway the cons. Good luck with your decision.

a stiff frame would protect the glass more from lack of flex. I have a 96 impreza wagon with shitty cracked front glass and its definately not from a stiff chassis. My roommate has an 05 wrx and his got a crack across the whole pane from one rock. Looking at the windshield compared to my toyota, it looks half as thick. I would venture to say it may only be 1 ply vs a usual 2 ply, or it could be a very thin 2 ply. weight savings? i dunno, but there is room for improvement.

had a wrx for a while and no probs, but always hear about the windshields cracking haha, for me that wouldnt deter me away from a sti, neither would cheap paint which it also has.
Mechanically there isnt to much bad to say about it, lets face it for the price you arent going to get such a badass setup(obviously an evo also) without spending alot of $$$
