I think it's far more likely that the trend of ill fitting clothing was born among people of poverty who had to wear hand-me-downs and shop at second hand clothing stores where they couldn’t always find the size that fits them.

To purposely dress that way is just silly. There is nothing worse than a polo shirt that fits someone like a dress.
