If you do see your car at his location, go down to the police station with your car's registration or copy of the title ($5 or $10 from DMV). The police will stand by while you recover your property so that the guy doesn't start stuff or press trespassing charges. Recovery agents (you or your buddies) must have proof of ownership before attempting to get it back.

You may want to file a "warrant in debt" if you have not already done so in District Court to reclaim your $1k deposit plus recovery fees (court costs, interest at prime rate over period of time he's kept the deposit, collection agency fees, etc).
