is there a TON of compression? will it kick back on the starter hard enough to break the housing? i mean , that's pretty thick aluminum....

does the motor have any vibrations? could the fw be bent?

other than that man, i'd almost want to blame it on a manuf. defect in the starter. if everything came from one ford to another - it should all work the same

No vibrations, 2nd flywheel...

It broke the XS start by the adjusting bolts. Worked fine before than. 12 to 1 comp, seems to spin fine but does have some kick back. Think a shim would help?

what kind of timing are you running? i've broke the shit out of some on BBC's with a fixed advance dist. having too much advance on start. a crank retarder was needed to fix that one.

i don't think a shim would help in this instance UNLESS maybe the starter were too deep beyond the flywheel when the gear extends, and maybe hangs up behind the ring gear when the motor's running ???

but hell, for the cost of a shim vs. cost of a starter - why not

my father in law has had the same issue on his truck to come to find out it was the wrong starter for the fly wheel I think his was a 162teeth flywheel and he was using the starter for the 157 teeth flywheel
