That deffinitely sounds like a tire problem. I used to have all sorts of trouble keeping traction as boost built up as well. I would spin into 2nd, gain traction by metering the throttle, then floor it and around 5k it would break loose again. Then i got new Kumho cheapo tires and it stopped doing that entirely.
Now my Kumhos are so worn though its back to breaking loose when power mounts...eesh. And i refuse to spend money on this car....anyone want it?..$2k, officially for sale..

im debating on whether or not i need to tow the 4pak to the track friday night or not. the 'old man' said that my tranny ain't gonna break, and it'll take a miracle for me to snap an axle or a spider gear. his bet is that i'll lose a u-joint. im now thinking that i need to get a d/s loop for the damn 4pak. and that's scarry.... this is my beater and im already twisting the chassis (as provin by the crack along the exterior a-pillar). when i chain the motor down, hold it to 5,500 on the 2step and jus dump-it...... OOOOOO BOY, I can't wait!!!
