Re: Looking for Job!!!!!!!
Ima 19 year old college student. My resume isn't exactly the best. I've only worked one job when I was 16-17 at a grocery store bagging. I used a good color crayon (jk). I really don't have much except my schooling (high, 1st college, 2nd college) and the one job. I've applied to everything short of what I was doing when I was 17

Re: Looking for Job!!!!!!!
What kind of jobs are you applying for? Ones that require experience or entry level ones that will get the experience you need to apply later for better jobs?
I applied for a work permit when I was 15 because my lawn mowing business with my younger brothers got shut down by the city for hiring friends at school who were under 16 years old, evading tax laws and child labor laws for a family business.
Maybe it's not a problem with the job market, it may be with the ambition to get a job. Are you living at home with your parents and not paying for your own school tuition? There may be no immediate incentive to actually get a job otherwise.
Not saying everyone should be going crazy and putting themselves through school or paying for their own cars (gasp, what a thought) but maybe you should just break down and actually create a job like lawn mowing or hand out flyers in your neighborhood for handyman work or whatever instead of applying for jobs that someone else has already created.

C'mon, if you're seriously wondering why you can't get a job, maybe you should ask one of the guys standing outside Home Depot at 6am each morning as they never seem to have a problem finding one.

Have you tried the career center at school? They aren't just for near-graduates, they can assist with finding employment while you are still in school.
How about the VEC? They always have jobs and you never know when a good one comes through there.

Re: Looking for Job!!!!!!!
It's a Fortune 100 company, but having the name won't help you due to the way they hire. They don't advertise positions, they just tell VEC that they need x number of people that have certain skills. VEC identifies potential candidates and asks them to fill out an application. The hiring process takes a couple of months and they also hire in spurts...the 30 people they hired in January were initially contacted in early November.
What they usually look for is a HS diploma/GED and 3 of the last 5 years operating manufacturing machinery. When you sign up at VEC, register for "General Employment" and thoroughly describe your previous job duties, skills, and equipment and tools used. VEC does a job match based on the company's requirements so make sure you cover everything that you have done. Also keep your information at VEC updated because you won't know when they may try to contact you. I wouldn't wait on them because it may be a few months before they hire again.
I had a friend who was layed off from Aleris last year. They invited him back, but he kept looking for a different job. He got hired on with Chesterfield County so he's glad he didn't go back. Good luck with the search.
