that knob is just the idle speed adjustment.
dunno how you could've fouled a plug that fast, but i guess it's possible. if nothing else it's cheap insurance to just throw a fresh set in it. definatly can't hurt anything. make sure you're not leaving the choke on too long, that may cause a plug to get loaded up and foul. you should only need the choke for a minute or so, then the bike should idle fine and continue to warm up to operating temps without the choke. there's no need to leave it on the whole time the bike is warming up, just to initially get it started on a cold motor.
tell people not to mess with your bike mang!! i'd smack someone i f i caught them playing with adjustments on my bike!
