guy's offering me the engine cases, rods+bearings, crank, backcut trans, and cyl head for $1500
that's a steal of a deal but I just don't think I can come up with that kind of money.

Your brake oil should NOT be green! Pull your pressure plate, see if your throw out bearing that is pressed into that plate is a little hard to spin. If it is, that could explain your oil burning up. If that doesn't seem like the culprit, pull the push rod (take off the slave cylinder and pull it from the slave side to save the orings), then check the o rings and seals. Look for scorch marks.
Check out desmotimes.com ; legitimately saved my ass the other night. LT is a great guy to deal with as well.
Replace with DOT 5.1 fluid, NOT 5.
Dot 4 would probably work fine, however, 5.1 is rated to temps almost twice as high; so you will never have a clutch lock up on you and almost buck you on the highway. Trust me, not a fun time.
I hope you can make it whenever we do the spring ride, I'd love it if you can ride her down so I can give you a heads up on all the shit things to watch out for

Re: Cycle whore thread
This is the ride I've been itching to do.
Leave early from my apartment, head up to big island, hit the twisties for about an hour +-30 minutes. Cruise next to the water and head to mountain cave lake and cook out. Then back around the loop the way we came and catch roads as we please.
