Good looking out man. Much appreciated. I'd return the favor, but I have to spread some more rep first.

Alright so I have a problem where my motorcycle battery is not keeping a charge, replaced battery to new battery lasts about a week and dies. This means battery is not being charged. instead of doing a bunch of testing I feel like just replacing strator and voltage rectifier, good or bad idea? Are there are parts I should also replace or look at quick?

Bike is EX500 year 91 It has been running fine for long time besides incidents that were mostly my fault.

testing the alternator shouldn't be that hard really. but i think that the problem is fairly obvious if the battery keeps getting drained.

is your regulator/rectifier a single unit?
if so then that sucks b/c they're more expensive. but you can save yourself the testing and just buy the single reg/rec. it's never a bad idea to have a spare since they do go bad.

edit: how to test your stator.

this also might help:

pretty much but no I just ordered a strator and a rectifier off ebay, I am hoping the model year on the rectifier doesn't matter. I doubt it.
