Re: Vibration at 4k
My bike did a funny thing, I seem to shift itself into neutral on its own today....grrrrrrr....Is it possible everyone in a blue moon for the tranny to shift on its own or give the appearnce of doing that by not going all the way into gear?

Re: Vibration at 4k
actually, it happens alot....
when you get a bent shift fork, or alot of wear on the shift drum.
sometimes though, you just get stuck on the point on the shift star (man, that's hard to explain, so just trust me) and you get what they call a "false nuetral". that's not really shifting itself though, more like getting stuck between gears when your shifting.
that, or you didn't fully click it into gear and the shift star just rotated backwards, but that would only happen if you were in 2nd gear, and it flipped backwards into nuetral.

well, the motor has to come out, and the cases have to be split, then you have to see what exactly the problem is, then replace those parts, the put it all back together.
i wouldn't worry about it unless it starts doing it often. sometimes you just get a bad shift, especially if your a lazy shifter, and don't put enough force on the lever to click it into gear real nice.

Re: Vibration at 4k
okay well let me pose this to you. I tear everything down and hand you the transmission as well as a bag of goodies pretty much the entire innards of the transmission. How much for you to do it a rough estimate high and low bounds.

Re: Vibration at 4k
if you bring me the tranny, i'll look at it and tell you what's screwed, no cost, since i'm not really doing any work.
i can tell you the first things to look for will be scores/wear marks on the end of the shift forks, and worn edges of the shift drum where the forks run in it. all the edges should be nice and crisp, and if it's worn, they'll be rounded off.
as far as "often"... usually the tranny will pop out of gear when it has alot of load on it, like when you're accelerating hard. if it starts doing that, then you have a problem.
