#1 reason why I think its appropriate.

You can go to most photog boards and post pics of cars/racing.....and get little to no feedback or CC. If you get any CC, they will complain about not having any colorful flowers in the background.........or give you some stupid CC that totally takes away from the focus (the car). Having a photog forum on a car board IMO will help sharpen skills of those learning, and even of those who are seasoned on here........since we already all share a common interest.

There would be plenty of picture posts that have nothing whatsoever to do with cars, but then again those more 'seasoned' with photography or even just with equipment can provide CC to help others learn.

Ok, how do you moderate this forum? Obviously you can't post videos or "Oh my god, UPS man hooked me up today" pictures. But how to you keep it to only good photography, or photography improvement type threads. Derren, Joe and a couple others can and do take good photos, but for every good photographer there are about 90 others that can't take a picture worth a shit but think they can. How would you keep the forum from filling up with crap like that? I also am not interested in seeing hyperlinks to magazine pictures of 800 hp Evos. A lot of people would think that because those are high quality pictures, they should go in there.

Cliff notes: What goes in the photography forum and what should be relegated to eye candy,

Excellent question. This is how I deal with it on my board:

1) Any off topic banter, or crude comments (not related) just get deleted.

2) I made a photography forum a child forum of our Multimedia forum. In the description for the photog forum is this;

This subforum is for the discussion of photographic equipment, and also a place to post pictures that YOU have taken and want to share. Work safe only of course.
So basically the rules would entail posting pictures YOU took that aren't some simple snapshots you took with your $100 pocket cam. The point of the forum is to share the hobby of photography, NOT to talk about the subject of the pictures. THAT is what "Eye Candy" is for.

3) Also these are my rules below. This is 2007, so if anyone is even bothering with dialup anymore, I see no need for a warning tag in a photography forum. However, I do ask to clarify what is inside of the trread. Being this board is larger, we could modify the guidelines I made below to fit this board better.

We've decided to make a subforum for people to share their own photography work. Of course in this forum you will post pictures that YOU have taken, not stuff you have found.......that still belongs in the main multimedia forum. The main purpose of this forum is to discuss cameras and equipment, and share your pictures for feedback and/or constructive critisizm. There are quite a few people getting into the hobby, so it should do well.

I don't think there is any need for a "56k" warning, since there really aren't many people still on dialup. However, please use the following headers if you are sharing pictures.

At the beginning of the thread title, put [Link] if you are only sharing a link to pictures, or put [Pics] or [Pictures] if you are actually going to post them inside the thread. Also, please keep the pictures no wider than 1000 pixels. If you want to post the hi-res version of a particular picture, please LINK it.

Just let it be known that this is a public forum, so expect feedback if you post your pictures. Also clarify if you would like constructive critisizm, as there are several talented photographers on here that might want to help you improve your skillllzzz.

Most importantly, NO OFF TOPIC BANTER!!!

I WILL BE A NAZI IN THIS FORUM!!!!
Maybe as a little modifier......we could have a standard for titles with bracketing like the [Pics] and [link] brackets I stated above......like if it is an equipment question or review [Equip] must be used in the title......and so forth......

So what about the photogs on this board that dont take automotive photos? Would they be able to post people pictures in there?

I just dont see how it would be any different than eyecandy. I dont think it would get enough traffic since only the "good" photogs would be posting.

Quoted myself from above.

How could you not see the difference? Eye-candy is full of links to videos and pictures that people have found all around the net. A dedicated photography forum would be JUST for sharing pictures that YOU have taken. The photog forum would contain threads normally titled "Photoshoot" or "took some pics". There is a fine line for what would go into what forum.......like if I walked around at a car show and took a crap load of pics of cars that were in attendance, then that would go to "Eye-Candy".

Think of Eye-Candy as more of a 'generic' or 'offtopic' multimedia forum, in which the majority of posts are to share findings on the net, or a snapshot you took of your neighbors dog taking a squash in the swimming pool.

And since we're leaning towards the "line" of what goes in what forum.......if someone happened to get some new wheels and other mods.....they would post in Eye-Candy......because the discussion would be about the mods, not the pics.

See the difference? Its pretty apparent to me.....obviously not to others.....

Basically if you have nothing useful to say just STFU.
Wow, a bit touchy aren't we?

Let me revise my statement, this is a motorsports forum. Photography itself is outside the scope of this forum. I think that adding a photography forum would "water down" the main idea of this forum. Like was said above, eye candy would serve just fine. If you want a photography forum, go to a dedicated one.

How about a subforum of offtopic/eyecandy?

My point went over your head again. Reread my reply again, maybe you'll get it. If not, don't hit the reply button again.

How about if you want a porn discussion? Go to a porn site? or go to the backroom? This is a site that started as an import car discussion board. It has since grown to include other topics. From motorcycles, to 4x4, to porn, to a place with the sole intent of people bitching about stuff. This site has grown from a car site, to a general online community. Photography is an interesting subject and one than many people show an interest in. It would be no more off topic than the backroom, super punchout, or even 90% of the topics in eye candy.

I think it's a great idea, I'd just like to see it moderated a little more aggressively than most of the other forums.
