Court on the 27th... any tips?
#11
I would plead no contest. I went to court for 73/55 and I plead no contest, I explained to the judge that I was lost and simply was not watching my speed. I told him that I had a clean record, and made an honest mistake. I asked that my record remain clear. He said he couldn't do that, but he did lower it to 9 over the speed limit. Most people who go in plead no contest.
Tips -- like the others have said, dress professional.
Also -- be polite! You don't need to totally kiss ass, this will only come off as fake. Be polite and honest, refer to the judge with either "judge" or "your honor." Answer all of his questions as truthfully as you can, and don't offer any guesses as to why you think the officer pulled you over. If you don't know something, just say "I don't know your honor." Don't fidget a lot or stammer, and try not to say "uh" a lot -- it will make you look untruthful. If you come off as clean cut, polite, and honest, the judge will want to like you. Most of the people I have seen in traffic court dress like they're going out to their mailbox, and are just plain trash. It's refreshing for the judge to deal with someone who is not a complete fool.

you're only 16 right? Well if thats the case, the judge will probobly make you take an 8 hour driving improvement class...I got a ticket for being in the wrong lane on I66 when i was 16 and i paid the ticket...then i got a letter saying i had to go to a class...The teacher at the classroom told me that i shouldve gone to court cus the judge would more than have likely threw the case out and made me go to a class...Be warned though cus ff you get another moving ticket while you're under 18, you lose your license for 90 days, and if you get a third, you lose it until you turn 18...
I went to court last month for turning into a no turn street going to GMU...The court date was on Nov. 5, but i had it postponed until Dec. 5...Went to court on Dec all dressed up and sure enough the cop didnt show up so the judge threw the case out...If you can, try to reschedule your court date and pray that the officer doesnt show up...

suggestions...
- first i would speak to the court clerk, you maynot even have to show up for court if you make a deal with them.. this person is going to be goign against you.. ask them what they can do for you
- if that doesnt work, show up early, you never know.. you might get lost or traffic.
- call the judge sir or mam..
- your gultiy no matter what if your speeding, your broke the law, an excuse is an excuse and remember the judge has been doing this for years every day.. so dont try to lie, they can tell..

u did it...u know u was speeding...don't waste other people time by trying to find an excuse...be a man and take responsiblity for ur action.
no no no..."No Contest"...mean i know i did...but i can't figure out a good lie for it. a judge wants to hear either ur guilty or not...be confident in ur plead...that show more honesty... i hate it when people plead "no contest".
yes yes ...they remember becuase they write down note on their copy after they pull u over...plus 90% of cop now have recording in their car or on them because people make false complaints.
this is good if u r guilty..which u r because u made this post.
lindsey I would plead no contest.
Silverbullet86 how is the cop gonna remember? this was like.... 3 months ago? this guy pulls shit loads of people over a week.
LouisM i think the phrase is "guilty w/ explanation"

I've laughed at everyone that has replied so far. You guys are hilarious. But I had to go to court two days before Christmas, for 88/65. This is what I did, and what the outcome was.
When you first get in, the judge explains what he is going to ask you. First thing he does, is call everyone's name and asks how you plead. You may change your plead later on, but he just wants to know now. I, and most people, pleaded No Contest. This is probably the best way to go.
After that, there was a short break, where the prosecutor stepped out into the hall. I went outside and talked to him. He lowered it to a 79/65 so that I wouldn't have wreckless, because this was my first ticket.
So I go back in, and my name gets called. I step up to the podium, and the prosecutor tells the judge we have reached an agreement. $119 fine, driving school. The judge then explained how/where to sign up for driving school. I paid the fine, then left.
Total: $119 + 50 court fees = $169
Driving school = $60
You may not take driving school online unless you are 21 for some reason, so you will HAVE to go to a class for it. Good luck in court, and dress nicely. People in front of me that had wreckless were getting $300 fines. Just be cool and try to talk to the prosecutor, or even your police officer before court starts. Talking to your police officer helps a lot too, and you could get it dropped by doing that. Good luck.

wreckless = class 1 misdemeanor = 6 months - 1 yrs in jail, payments of $1200.00 fine, suspension of ur license for 1 yrs. and/or completion of driving school.

This is why you are NOT a police officer. You have to be intelligent first. It's his first ticket, so he will get something near to what I got, but he was in a lower speed area. That might make a difference, or it might not. In my case, and almost all of the cases I heard, the police officer did not say anything, because it's the Prosecutor that is prosecuting, and he does the talking. The police officer is just there in case any background information needs to be known, which usually isn't the case. Sounds to me like you have never even been to court.

if i was a police officer and pulled u over. Then, u come to court and plead "NO CONTEST" ..i would advise the prosecutor that i want the max punishments for ur ass. OHHHH...and prosecutors listen to the officers' opinions and requests more than u or ur lawyer.

ur right that the prosecutor does the talking...but ur wrong if u don't think the officer hasn't talk... he go to court an hour before court time start and talk w/ the prosecutor handling the case...so the prosecutor already know the facts...he or she will advise the officer what they are seeking for punishment after conviction. At that time the officer can advise his request on punishments, depening on how rude or an asshole u were on the traffic stop.
in addition, to this the prosecutor will notify the officer if she or he has changed the punishment after speaking w/ u or ur lawyer at court. it is call profesional courtesy for the prosecutor to advise the officer of the change. AND AT THAT TIME, IF I WAS THE OFFICER THAT PULLED U OVER ... I WOULD SEEK THE MAX FOR UR ASS. WHY?????? BECAUSE UR NOT MAN ENOUGH TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR UR ACTIONS and decided to come to court w/ some BULL SHIT lie to get out of it by pleading "NO CONTEST".
and for ur info. "NO CONTEST" mean u r GUILTYYYYYY.
It's either ur guilty or not....not i don't know if i'm guilty or not...DON'T waste the people who are really not guilty time by ur dumbass excuses.
ps...i've been in court so many times now i lost count...some as a defendant and some as on the prosecutor....it's because of ride-a-long and classes...so court take all day because guilty people make stupid excuses trying to get off...here a qoute for u....
ej25 your broke the law, an excuse is an excuse and remember the judge has been doing this for years every day.. so dont try to lie, they can tell..

you suck at the english, and you have contradicted yourself so many times that I just stopped reading. Do the court system a favor and end yourself.
And I never said that No Contest means you're innocent.
