Angry Got owned by my safety inspection

Well anyways, I went to a shop to get my teg inspected (it's a 98 ls auto) thinking that it would pass easily. Unfortunately, I was sorely mistaken.
The man said that I failed due to two major reasons: my left rack/pinion boot and an exhaust leak. After putting it up, they determined that I needed to replace my "intermediate pipe" (I put quotes because I'm not sure what part that is that corresponds, let us say, to the catalog of acuraoemparts).
He quoted me at ~$580 with parts and labor, ~300 for the exhaust and $25 for the boot with 82/hr labor.

My question is, what part(s) do I need, exactly? And are there any shops willing to inspect me/give me another estimate?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

You should not have failed for the boot.

oh really?
that's weird, because he quoted 1.5 hours labor on that too...

edit: I did do some searching on shops, does anyone know if the shop mentioned in this thread does general inspection work?

Or know if this or this shop is reputable?

no, remove tire, take off tie rod end(count turns for alignment), slide off boot, replace. how is that hard?

and it fails for boots if it is leaking.

Holy fuck it's easy as shit to fix. Even a retard shouldn't need 1.5 hrs.
$300 for a replacement piece of exhaust? You can get a full 3" catback for $130 at Big Al's.

Torch that shop and never look back.

Also you can use a marker to mark where the tie rod and bolt should go back to. It doesn't take long to replace it!

if you dont feel like you can do the work yourself, try shops that arent in the city. the labor rates are sometimes cheaper.
