I go to xsport in merrifield (just off gallows, between Lee Hwy and Rte 50).
They let you pay month to month. Keep in mind, any gym is going to charge you a bullshit processing fee. I know xsport will give you a discount for military, and you could "freeze" your account once you're off at training.

just get dumbbells from craigslist. not worth it to join a gym for a month unless theres a place that doesnt have an initial sign up fee

really? xsport is month to month? how much is it a month?
but yeah, like vasol said, jus go on clist, get a few weights/pull up bar, etc, and do shit at home.
also, i know ppl in the military have the ability to cancel phone contracts and leases if they're going off to duty or whatnot, check if its the same at gyms, it should be

i've never had any issues in there. no one says shit about deadlifting.
Only thing that sucks hard is the db's only go to 70lbs.

they do have a policy against general obnoxiousness because it's a gym for the general public, not body builders or power lifters... but no one says anything about what kind of workout you can do there. they just ask that you be courteous to the rest of the members since most of the people are often older or out of shape first time gym members... that's why the policy is there in regards to grunting and such.

Re: Gyms in City of Fairfax with month to month membership?
From Marunde-Muscle
I was deadlifting a couple days after the switch and they told me I couldn't deadlift because it was intimidating to the other members. I was not being loud or droping the weights at all. The next day I was doing some jerks and the 110 lb trainer came over and told me that I would benefit more from lifting the weight slow and controled. I laughed and continued what I was doing and then the manager came over and told me I had to stop because it was too dangerous. I then got into a half hour argument with the guy about how the judgement free zone is a bunch of bull####. I said that I was following a program to reach certain goals just as many of the other members in there. I never used chalk or yelled once. I told them I wanted my money back because the whole judgement free state was only applied to people that actually knew what they were doing. If I was doing aerobics with 2lb pink dumbbells they wouldn't have said a word. They said they wouldn't give me money back until I told them that I was going to write a letter to the paper from a physical educators view point about how planet fitness really only cares about getting as many clients as possible and nothing about actual fitness. They gave me my money back but I still want to burn the place down!
