i use to make $15 an hr in smithfield and i was a tech for about a year but me and the boss man had some disagreements and i found another job

I'm a PDI tech. Been in the industry for a little over a year.
Salary wise, put it this way, you can have a potential 6 figure income.

Honestly most dealerships don't care about motor swaps and such. The reason is because there's a difference between a hobby and a profession...Well, at least thats what my service manager told me.
You can go to a tech school and take auto classes. Once you finish you can find a job pretty easily. If you are entry level, you pretty much have to start from the bottom - porter, lube tech, aprentice, etc.
Check the Sunday Employment pages and call around. Thats my best advice.
