Quick question: Motorcycle permit in NOVA
I'm planning on getting my motorcycle permit within the next month. The DMV manual isn't very clear about this, am i going to have to take the Driver's test and Motorcycle test? I have my license, and i don't know whether to restudy the driver's manual or not.... even though most of it is common sense. I've studied the Motorcycle manual, and don't feel like having to retake it because DMV lines = crappy.
Thanks,

Re: Quick question: Motorcycle permit in NOVA
Take it at the same time? [sorry you edited your post, just the test not the driving part yet]. I've already taken the Driver's test (knowledge exam and Behind the Wheel) and have my Driver's license. What I'm asking is if i have to retake the Driver's test (knowledge exam) along with the Motorcycle test (knowledge exam) to receive my Motorcycle Permit. And then i know i have to go through the Rider Training Program to obtain the motorcycle license.
I hope that clarifies it up a bit.

No you dont.....You can just take the motorcycle test. Have to have your Permit for at least three months before you can get your License. Then After you pass the program just take the paper they gave you saying that you pass the program and gave it to DMV. Then you gave them your old driver license and permit. Then they gave you a new license with the M class on it. hope that helps

Re: Quick question: Motorcycle permit in NOVA
yup Jesus is right. i jsut got my permit on monday. same answer 20 out of 25 correct and it costs $3 to get the permit. I dont think you have ot have it for 3 mo. before you get the license though. I talked to someone from dmv and they said that you have to have the permit for 1 mo. if you are 19+. i plan on taking the class and then going to get my license in June or so.
edit: if you are under 19 you must hold it for 9 months and if you are over 19 and have taken the learn to ride program with in the last 2 yr. you are exempt from having to hold the permit for 30 days or having the take the skills test.
All this came from the manual that DMV gives out on page IV of the preface.
