No it's not, I think they run 4.5psi or something, you can't ask much more of a 3.2L engine. That engine puts out more power in NA form than some turbo engines do of similar size.
It's more of a project/challenge for people and tuners, not the kinda thing you'll see on the road. MAJOR all motor work is the only way you'll get serious power from that engine. The PTG and BMW Motorsport S54 engines are putting out over 430hp NA (w/ restrictions.)

edit: Then again if you can buy a $90,000 car, why not supercharge it?

stock bimmers suck huh?? yea right, germany has alwayz tuned their cars nicely and too perfection.. i dont care wat anybody says, BMW's are just plain made to go fast, 99 M3 motor I think is the best and most tunable.

Just for the record, that was an M3 CSL (lightweight) only available in europe, in its stock form it performs dead even with the lighter, wider, lower (with 3 less seats and no "trunk") Z06. Yeah they don't make it anymore, just giving you an example. Anyways that's why I said 90k.

I guess the bottom line is pretty simple, all orders for M cars have always been filled, there are loong waiting lists for custom models (sure oyu can go to most dealerships and find one.) Same deal with the new M5, pre-orders are already more than filled.

Saying that a car sucks for the price is an opinion, not a fact (so don't act like it's a fact.) If you're saying would-be M3 owners should tear up their pre-order forms for an SRT-4 because they "suck for the price" well.. I think I just showed you how weak your argument is. The cars have always been about providing incredible levels of driver feedback, handling quality, balance, feel, and control.. while doing so in a stylish, confortable, safe, and entertaining package. I really don't think anyone else has the ability to provide that level of VERSATILITY, BMW knows exactly where to draw the line between performance (that you can USE) and comfort that you will use.) I guess I'm saying there will always be cars that are faster, or some that are more comfortable, but none offer the perfect blend of the two that BMW M has been offering for almost 30 years. I've driven a number of different models now; their ability to transform from a road car into a track car instantly, with little to no compromises, is an art that few companies can tackle.
There will always be people who think they suck for the money, these people are concerned with raw hp and 1/4 times alone, the qualities that the M cars represent can't be explained on paper, it's something you have to feel and experience. If you haven't driven one or at least been in one, I don't expect you to understand.

10% of the effort gets 90% of the product
same holds true with the car, 10% of your money buys you 90% of what you need.

In other words, even an MP5 can get you into trouble - why get anything more?
