consider the fact that getting a cog and chain, which will cost u all of 25 bucks, will give you a fixie for 125....have u looked at how Much other people sell older fixies for......much much more...,you can even look on this site for people sElling them pretty high

i would consider it downgrading, but would add that its making the bike simpler.
take a regular road bike
take off shifters:
accompanying derailleurs, accompanying cables and housings
take of brakes:
accompaning calipers, accompanying cables and housings
this makes the bike lighter, easier to clean, less to maintain, less to go out-of-adjustment which can cause headaches mid-ride, and cheaper
the chain is your means to accelerate the rear wheel, and your means to decelerate the rear wheel
look at your standard beach cruiser...no hand brakes, no gear changes....a very simple system...only difference is the rear hub....u can have fun with a fixie over a coaster brake
