I do it at less than 100 on a new engine and cut the filter open to see what's there. If there is an issue beginning, better to catch it before it wipes everything out. If you can't afford the extra oil change before 500 miles, you may want to think about the coin that's been put into the car to get it where it is. If it's good at 100, I do it again at 500 (again cutting the filter open).

Every 100 miles for the first 500 is excessive, that's all I'm trying to say. You do it at 100 and 500, not the first time its warm and then also at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, etc. That would be six oil changes instead of the two that you normally do. Six times in 500 miles is just a waste of oil.

all i did was warm the car up to operating temp,then changed the oil...then i drove for 500 miles with that oil change and changed it with full synthetic castrol syntec oil...just my choice of oil..i would agree with FABRIK8 for sure lol

I heatcycled the motor. then changed oil.. then changed the oil again at 100 miles.. then again at 500.. I have changed my oil about 10-12 times since i built it.. and i currently have just under 3500 miles on it now.. I figure an oil change is cheap compared to the investment I have allready put into the motor. I dont drive it daily so when I do drive it I drive it lol
