Re: UGH!!! I hate moving!
I'm sort of in the same boat, looking for a place to live that I can take my little mutt with me. Let me know if anything comes up. Steph, if you find a place and don't mind a male roommate I'd be willing to throw in a monthly rent...but i'm leaving in summer time to head back to VA Tech and finish up my degree...

Buying a used townhome on the southside is very affordable with your budget. Note how much more money you could borrow with a roommate paying say, only $320 a month!
Don't worry about the mortgage payment being more than the rental payments you are used to, take a look at your last year's taxes then deduct the tax amount from that, say 18% because most of the mortgage payment (interest) is tax deductible. For example, an $858.91 mortgage payment is actually about $704 per month, take in $320 as rental income and you pay only $384 per month to live in your own $160,000 house!
I don't know the southside real estate areas too well, but areas around Route 10 and where Chris (HondaCrusher) have a townhouse seem pretty good. Have seen a few going for $100-120k that are good 2 bedroom places with the standard small backyards.

I have had this same problem w/ my old pitt apt mamnagers saying no to pitts... My reply well i got teh dog from teh pound and they said it was a boxer mix / mutt... they always bought it... even tho you could clearly see he was a pitt... Also introducing your dog to the complex managers, showing them the temperment of the dog first hand is always good.
