i thnik most likely is the iac valve same issue with my friends ls swapped hatch.
check timing too
could also be the ecu not right b.c my firend has a sohc on the dohc motor and surges but once the iac valve was changed it was very little surging

its either your tps sensor (throttle possition sensor) or you tps gasket mine did the same thing itleing from 1 to 2k rpms and it was my tps gasket try that dude
