Do you have exhaust hooked up? Do you have a Cat convertor? It could be stopped up.
My motor did the same thing, would go past 4k thought it was the intake, did a TPI conversion didnt matter.
Cut the cat off, 5.8k
BTW I had 358 CI pushing through too.

nah, i dont think its the cat......it HAD been unhooked till last night. even unhooked, open downpipe, it was doing this. its just like limp mode on my nissan, just 1000 rpm higher. i guess it could be the distributor, tps sensor, or iac sensor. maybe. other than that, i have no idea. i need to stop being lazy and get the scanner on her.

ok, just finished playing with it......dont know how id hook up a scanner, theres no plug that i can find. be that as it may......number 4 cyl wasnt firing, because of shoddy wiring on the injector plug. fixed that, its quite a bit better, but still wont go past 5200.....did notice that the knock sensor is NOT hooked up, wire is broken.....would that do it? i know it doesent help.

make sure your knock sensor and o2 are hooked up. being obd2 im gonna go ahead and say the knock sensor def. needs to be hooked up properly. thats why most people convert to obd1 is to eliminate bullshit like that.

all right.....ill get it hooked up, then go from there.....the plug was broken off the wire, which is why they didnt hook it up. i guess it could be pulling mad timing as a result.

The first thing is to clear any and all codes and to make sure that they will not come back on. meaning hook all of the broken wires up to the correct location ect.
I would say yes that if the temp sensor is broken or not hooked up it could stay in limp mode.
