I consider it a five-door hatch, like a Rabbit.

There IS a sedan version though, unlike the rabbit, and so the Axela hatch *could* be considered an "estate version" of the sedan. Thus, making it a wagon.

Most of this "class" nomenclature is nonsensical anyway. What exactly separates a "Crossover" from an SUV that is built on a unibody? Nothing, near as I can tell.

All I'm saying is that the 3 is officially classified as a hatch.

for me personally I like wagons, the wifes got a BMW E46 wagon that I freakin love to drive - it helps that it's a 5spd with the sport package, it's just that little bit more useful than my sedan

 

oh i'm not saying one is better than the other. I used to have a mazda 3 and i called it a hatch, and I currently have a wagon, and I still call the 3 a hatch.

 

A hatch can be 2 or 4 door. It all depends on the cargo space. Differences

soo...would that make a eg hatch a wagon...it doesnt have four doors, BUT from what you said above.....

and my eclipse, under registration, is a hatch, BUT it DEFINITELY looks no where near a wagon... so i have to FULLY disagree with your statement

 

Mazda 6 has a sedan, hatch, and wagon version... the hatch looks like a sedan with a lil extra and the 3rd brakelight is on the trunklid, plus a rear wiper... the wagon is obvious:




So the 3 is a wagon by nature (maybe they call it a hatch since it's small?)
