Thumbs up Do it yourself curb rash repair

I bumped a curb when it was snowing out and messed up a wheel which happened to be an $850 Volk RE30 18x9 . I had a local company repair a set of Racing Hart C4's and was not happy. I watched this video on how to repair curb rash on youtube with this stuff called Techno Weld and decided to give it a try. The stuff works really well, it was worth the $20 for the techno weld and I bought a MAPP gas torch for $40 from Lowes. I thought this might help someone if they are of the DIY type since I always see people asking about wheel repair. Please leave +rep if you like this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk-PKNTLL9M The materials:
http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/pyro.htm is the link to buy techno weld
Mapp gas torch (propane will not get hot enough)
Sand paper (i used 120 up to 600)
dremel/die grinder with a sandpaper roll attachment
straight edge to tell how much to build up the curbed surface with techno weld

The wheel:

Cleaning it up. (basically i stripped the paint back some and de-burred it)

Start heating the area with the mapp gas torch until you can melt the techno weld into the holes then drag the stainless abraider thru it as it is melted to break the alum oxide layer that way it will bond to the aluminum.

Sand away until you get the desired surface results!

Repaint your wheel or have it powdercoated. I am getting Advanced Custom Coatings to do mine here soon. I'll post pics of them finished.
In these pics I just sprayed some black on it to see any imperfections..

will this stuff work with polished lips? In other words, can this weld stuff be polished to the same shine as a polished lip or will there be color discrepancies?

I can't give you a definite answer on that, the instructions say that it can be painted but not anodized. I left a comment on the YouTube video asking if its possible. Maybe someone will know.

There's going to be color discrepancies, and it may polish better or worse than the surrounding area. It's hard to make a patch alloy match perfectly unless you're welding in a similar alloy.

Yeah that's what I think too, after all the sanding that I did you can still tell where the patching is and it does look like it polishes better than the wheel does.
