Yea if you change the coil in the distributor then it should fix it.. The guts of the distributor usually never go bad, just the coil.. Changing the rotor and cap would help for better spark also..

Can't check if coil is bad. Plugs smell heavly of fuel. Checked if I had spark. I have no spark on any plugs. I have ngk wires. No damage to them. Took cap off. Where the rotor connects to the cap to make spark those metal things are white n 2 of them look like a little burnt. The rotor is white n looks burnt. Top of rotor where it connects is dark like its burnt I should say n bas is all white. So im guessing cap n rotor need changed n plugs. Any thoughts that coil or dizzy is bad? Idk if it means anything but the rotor spins freely also when u crank the key

Attempting to start the engine with the cap off (and leaving the main plug connected) can lead to burning up the coil. I know that happened to me with a brand new coil.

I hope you unplugged the distributor before cranking it up with the cap off. Otherwise, if the coil was good, it is quite possibly fucked now.

And why can you not check the resistance of the coil?
It is super easy and takes like 30 seconds with a DMM.
