This is the flooding I was talking about, there is a procedure to fix it though.

from the few we have had in the shop, and the owners telling us, you have to rev that shit up to like 6k before shutting it off or you will have trouble starting it, or it wont start at all the next time around. Also they all had extra quarts of oil, they had to fill the oil up every time they fueled up. That is ridiculous to me.

Having owned one before it was totaled(thanks non-drivers), I can almost assure you, you need a rebuild. I would take it to a dealership and get them to run a compression test on it, that'll tell you whats going on. If that comes back fine, try replacing spark plugs, coil packs, and wires. The coil packs on these usually only last around 30,000 miles.

Since you only have 80,000 miles on your car, you can get a new engine under warranty. I would get it while you can, mine went out at 104,000.

If the car floods you just have to hold the gas pedal to the floor while you crank. These cars tend to be picky about their coolant temp sensors, try it out. Really should do research before buying a rotary, when cared for correctly they can be as reliable as anything else.

The 2004 and early 2005 starters were known to be VERY weak on these cars. The late 2005+ cars have an updated starter that is substantially more powerful. Combine that with a piss poor ignition system and cats that are known to clog and cause MANY issues and these cars are VERY hard to start. I'd bet money you need a "updated" starter at a minimum (you can get 'em at autozone/advanced, but make sure you check both part numbers to find the more powerful one). Look into the starter and check out BHR for the LSx coil retrofit system.

I forgot about clogged cats. Good call. I was straight piped so never had that issue. My starter was replaced really early on mine also. Luck me, I got all the work the previous owner had done documented.

But good luck OP, rx8's are great cars, when everything works.

Ok, so I should get the cats knocked out and replaced ( car is tagged in wv, no emissions tests), replace the starter, plugs(ordered), and my CEL is on because low bank o2 sensor so I have the also. Did i miss anything?
