Attention Honda Heads

Re: Attention Honda Heads
I am a 17 year old new in the honda game
I recently just purchased a 2000 Honda Civic Ex coupe.
I want to boost the car, but im not sure what would be the best setup
I have asked some other honda owners, and they say to stick with Garret and stay away from Turbonetics?
What is the best setup for my car and my budget?
i have a D16y8 engine.
and a budget of 2000 for the turbo kit.
Everything is completely stock on the car.
i just want to boost it.
and i have the tools and the space in order to do the work myself.
Any suggestions?

Re: Attention Honda Heads
Since this is your first Honda, 99% of kids run the dog shit out of them and the last thing you want is to ruin a perfectly good B series. Just drive the D for a while. It's not a powerhouse but will handle abuse better than a B. The most important thing is to just take care of it and it will last. If your planning on being hard on it change the oil a little sooner than normal. Then swap it later once you get more knowledge. And please stay away from the rice. lmao

Re: Attention Honda Heads
i dont dog my car.
this will actually be the second car i will work on.
i am currently building a 91 cx hatch.
rebuilding the engine this weekend with a mentor of ours .
its a project with my buddy, we bought the car for 500. we plan on sellin it in the next few months in the summer after we fix it all.
i want to turn whatever i drive into a project that i can appreciate over thee next years.
and with the current engine, i cant do what i want to do.
i want to build an SI to where it will be pushing 550-600 horses.
with a d series, i have been told i can only reach 350-380 tops.
i do not dog my car, or mistreat it.
infact, i probably have one of the cleanest cars around.
its my pride, and its what i work for.
almost paid off, and in july, it will be.
i may be a young driver, but i pride myself in being a responsible driver.
although i want to make my car stupid fast, its not something i want to abuse.
i just want the satisfaction of doing a project that i can achieve in time.
also the satisfaction of being one of the few in VA with a 600 horse honda.
so yea...
its just what i want to do, and a goal i want to achieve.
and its gonna be something that i can get my dad to work on with me..
so its just something i want to do.
this thread was just started to ask advice.
so here is another ?
of these three engines, which would be the best choice that i could have the most power with.
B16a
B16b
B18c5?
also, what type of engine is being referred to when ppl refer to their car as having an "ls swap"?
curious, some say it is one of the best? is it?
btw, ill never be a ricer.
NEVER.
so please dont insult me.
hahaha, cuz ricers just insult honda in general.
so ill definately stay away from anything that would rice out my car.

Re: Attention Honda Heads
please for the love of god and all that is holy. do not pull apart a c5 and boost it. if you want to boost a b series build a gs-r or ls-v for boost. noone should ever boost a type r motor. be it b16, b18, or k20
