driving the car tonight and all of a sudden it has no acceleration like a miss type of feeling and then backfires,, then the car just dies.... i checked timing belt, its good.. the motor still turns over fine.. i can see my cam gears so i know thats ok.. im thinking it could be ignition problems... any ideas? thanks.

Pull your distributor cap off and check if the rotor is loose. that could cause your problem. Also do a resistance test on your coil and an igniter out put test while the cap is off

Sounds like you need a new distributor. Had similer happen to me. Find one to borrow to make sure before buy a new one.
