b18a machining questions

Default b18a machining questions

i blew my engine a few weeks ago and im looking to get it bored since i think the cylinder walls are trashed.The guy at shepards machine shop said $15 a hole to bore.Id just like to know what size i should bore it to and what pistons to get?

Im new to this so please cut me a break

your choice, depending on how bad your cylinder walls are scratched.... I'd go with 84mm.

thanks how much bigger of a bore is that over the stock bore?

um your machinist should tell you what to get. or what your options are.

think about it. if you go in and say..... I want 84mm pistons and a sleeve when you can just hone it out or possibly get oversized parts the machine shop is probablly gonna rip you off. or take advantage of the fact that you dont know what you want. and prolly wont know what you are given.

you prolly dont need sleeves.

go in and say..... i wanna rebuild my b18. whats it gonna cost me. then see what the deal is with parts and what you want. when you find out. possibly price match but thats kinda a grimey thing to do to a person thats spent time on helping you.

when i price shop i usually stick with the original person but do ask for something to make the deal better for me if there is a significant difference.

Thanks im gonna go back to shepards and talk about it but with the 84mm bore thats b20 spec correct?and would i need sleeves for that

well yup youll need to get it sleeved cause the walls are going to be thin...I mean what compression are you trying to go for and is it doing to be your DD and pumped just get a k20 if u have the money it cost about a grand to get your shit resleeved well atleast here in texas

yea its gonna be the dd i heard i may be able to get it honed and i wanna run about the stock compression which is 9.2:1 i beleive
