Re: bike overheating after long ride
thanks for the continuing replies guys. im going to try to ensure there are no air pockets in there first and if that isnt the problem i am going to completely flush everything out and check the t-stat. i guess if the problem continues my next step will be to take it to a shop to have the engine looked at for possible head gasket problems. are there any things i should look for that would hint towards a head gasket problem? such as water in the oil or anything?
please continue to throw any other ideas out there that yall may think of, hopefully this will be something simple

Re: bike overheating after long ride
I am also going to lean towards one of two things here. Either an air pocket that just happens to get put in the right spot for the sensor when the water pump spins a little faster or I hate to say it a head gasket problem. Seen it a few times where the head gasket only lets go under pressure like what you're describing. Holds ok when cruising and all but once you hit it even just a little it pushes past the gasket and boils the water. Normally makes the car/motorcycle run rough too though so I am really stumped by this.
If it were my bike I would lean more towards a faulty thermostat with the combo of air and try your best to get it bled really well.

yea and it runs pretty good except very low throttle like barely hitting it at all sometimes it seems to bog i guess you could say but i assumed that had to do with the carbs. will check the system probably tomorrow since im off and update yall. hopefully this will be solved simply. and again thanks for all the responses guys

I'd caution against making assumptions about different problems. The bogging might have to do with the carbs, and the overheating could be completely unrelated. The overheating is the bigger problem obviously, so that's the important one to diagnose and fix. Then you can tune up and sync the carbs and fix any other bogging problems if they still remain.

Probably not very much for a bike, and you should be able to do the work yourself without much difficulty. It really depends if there is any damage to the head or block though, because aluminum blocks and heads don't really like it when they get overheated. I'm assuming this isn't your only mode of transportation so if you have to take parts to get worked on then not a problem...?

Re: bike overheating after long ride
no its not my only mode of transportation, its just a toy. and im sure i could figure it out myself especially with a manual but would rather have someone who knows what they are doing and looking at do it. if done at a shop i would have some type of guarantee and since i dont have alot of time to spend pulling this thing apart and figuring it out it would save me alot of headache. any recommendations as far as what shop to take it to or any other things i should look at or consider, etc..?
