Re: Block guard Causing Over heating?
That's a good point. So the aluminum outer sleeve is in contact with the block guard, but there will still be slight thermal impedance mismatch because the metals aren't really in intimate contact. So it would be better than steel to aluminum, yes. You're still slightly limiting the surface area of the sleeve (where the blockguard is) in contact with the cooling water though. But like I said, that shouldn't have a significant effect on overall cooling.
i tried to + reped u but i cant

Re: Block guard Causing Over heating?
like i said before.
the head is lifting my cars fine on 16psi but on 30 she would run hotter than normal eventually leading to a overheat. i blew the head slam off the block my studs literally were mm's longer due to the stretching that occured. arp only even recommends retorquing their studs like twice... then get a new set.
golden eagles are the best out at the moment. but last i heard for a b series they are on national backorder.... hope your luck is better for a sohc.

Re: Block guard Causing Over heating?
If you're stretching head studs that much then you have some serious peak cylinder pressure problems and need some tuning.
And yes, at 30psi it's going to run hotter than normal, it's putting out a lot more power than at 16psi. More power output = higher heat...

Re: Block guard Causing Over heating?
the car was tuned for 16-18, turned it up a little, and it ran flawlessly, so i turned her up alot one night and she was faster than she ever was, turned her back down to normal levels and it only saw 30 when it needed it, but after maybe a week of on and off 30 psi, she stretched the studs. she began to run hot and over heat. i knew it was inevitable, i even told EVERYONE that if i raced that last car that night it was going to let go and it did.......
lesson learned. wont happen again trust.
but god damn that thing fucking moved on 30 psi.....
disclaimer - this was my si, not the integra i own now.

Re: Block guard Causing Over heating?
i wonder what all of them are using for their rod bolts or their extended wheel studs.
I understand that people are ignorant, but find some backing when talking shit about a product. (ARP and blockguards)
I hear so many people talk shit about block guards. but then you ask them who installed it. Uh, I beat it in the block with a wooden mallet.
(although I know a motor that had that happen. and it has held together for a while and makes mid 300s)
