Re: car wont start
if it's the fuel pump gone bad, you will not be getting fuel pressure at the fuel rail. do those steps i listed above and that should narrow down your options of whats gone bad.

well, if the plugs smell like fuel or are 'wet' with fuel, then either your spark is non-existant or your ignition timing is off. but if the plugs aren't wet or smell like fuel, but are dry or otherwise, then you may have a engine main relay that has gone bad. you can pop the cover off of it and check the solder and/or smell the relay to check if it's burnt.

alternator could have taken a crap. If thats the case then your car would have been running off the battery. Then once the battery died your car had no electricity to creat a spark. I would check the alternator. I would also check the alternator fuse. If that fuse tripped then you would not be receiving power to the battery again and there fore, again, your car would die on you.

there's another post here in dragva, it shows you where the MFI is. its under the center console up front near the computer.
The alternator fuse is either gonna be A on the battery positive terminal or in the engine bay fuse box. Thats where I think it is on the 1gs.
Also for shits and giggles check to make sure the alternator wires aren't fried on the alternator. That would also prevent the car from charging.
