well. the last ford truck that i worked on had the same exact problem. it was a 4.2 v6 and ran and drove great. i was getting codes for bank 1 and 2 lean. the upper intake plenum gasket had a small leak. replaced it and what do ya know........no more codes!

What do ya do CHAHONDA you try to help but.... By the way I think you are dead on...It's not that I know those vehicles in particular. It's just in my umpteen years of working with vehicles that had a lean code is rule of thumb check for vacume leaks, then fuel pressure. I don't care if someone else says the flux capacitor was the problem on his sisters car. I know what years have taught me. But I would like to know what they find that fixes the problem. Sometimes I wish I could see these cars rather than doing internet diagnostics. Also sometimes I wish only qualified techs or at least a knowlegeable guy could post... Sorry I was on a rant but sometimes ya just gotta vent. And my comments aren't directed toward anyone on this thread. Just a general reaction to the guys who claim the wheel bearings are the cause of that rod knock! HINT TO OWNER. a can of carb cleaner works wonders in finding a vacume leak!!!

Please don't by a MAF. Try the carb cleaner trick first. it only costs $3.00 for a can!!
