Corrado VR6 Turbo Questions
I might be trading my car for a VW Carrado VR6 Turbo
The engine has over $15,000 in it, 12K on the motor.
The car is putting 470hp to the wheels at 12psi.
At 22psi it dyno'd at over 700hp.
Any problems I should be aware of with these cars?

i tend to stay away from buying other people's projects like that. You never know what kind of shit your gonna be getting into with a car modified that much. Any pics of the car or specs?

Re: Corrado VR6 Turbo Questions
VR6 motors aftermarket rings/pistons tend to have oil/smoke issues. I have seen a lot of people build VR6 motors over the years and sell them or part out the cars shortly (6month-1year later or 2,000-10,000 miles) after completion of the engine build up. I know of a friend who just moved to Texas that built a VR6 turbo and bought a Schimmel Built long block from a person that parted out his Turbo setup and he has had oil issues too. With VWs factory bottom ends hold up best and the best vw motors to crank the boost up on are motors that came with boost from the factory.
Also if you plan on using all of the 470whp and the torque that goes with it then plan on having a bunch of transmissions handy. 3rd gears specifically. BTW is it this car: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2660629

I forgot to include that the friend that now has the schimmel motor has begun to have issues and is on his 3rd set of piston rings with the motor

12v VR6 that makes 470whp at 12psi and 700 at 22psi? What the hell is the whole setup? That's crazy hp at those boost levels. Has he dynoed it or is he telling you what the car SHOULD make? VW guys seem like they tend to overestimate the power they'll make on a certain setup.

Re: Corrado VR6 Turbo Questions
He said he has the dyno sheets, ive not seen them yet though.
I have still to even look at the car, just been talking alot on the
phone, but i trust the guys, seen a couple of his project cars
inluding a badass 92 Integra shell, with a 99 JDM Type R swap.
All motor, 215hp, 13.5 1/4mi on street tires.

Re: Corrado VR6 Turbo Questions
Here is what NGP did for their VRT Rallye with a built motor and engine management:
14-psi: 363 Wheel Horsepower
21-psi: 465 Wheel Horsepower
30-psi: 549 Wheel Horsepower
for more details http://www.vwvortex.com/resources/pr...lye/index.html
They ended up using Ross pistons which I believe use the factory rings.
