i think it was the fuel map comment.
Don't listen to the fuel map comment. He was trolling. And having the distributor timing should not affect the car starting. All the distributor timing does is retard or advance spark.

well it might be too retarded and getting it to not spark high enough even though its dead center.

If it still doesn't crank after, advance the timing on the distributor. Try to push start the car as well. If it starts that way and stays running, its a ground that's bad somewhere. Are you getting a CEL?

Check and ensure you have all your grounds reconnected, one to the Head, one to the Tranny and one to the Thermostat... shouldn't be any others but I may be mistaken.. I've been there before with a loose ground on the Thermostat and had same symptoms..

Make absolutely sure that the plug wires are in the correct order. I know that sounds obvious, but I've seen many people put the plugs wires back on in the wrong sequence. I've done it once or twice when I wasn't paying attention, but found it when I went back and checked. I'm not a big fan of things that can be assembled in multiple configurations, because sooner or later you're going to accidentally do it wrong.

The ground wire should be on a nut on the thermostat body, just above the sensor plug.. see below image
