Re: loss of oil?
about the rings, i was just stating that i know that loss of oil can be caused by the rings but there are plenty of other parts that could go bad and have the same problem. i was just hoping it was something that was more of an easy fix

Get my drift?
In other words, you have been offered advice, and you turn it down. So blow up your motor, or get the damn thing tore down and inspected, whether you want it to be the rings/pistons or not. You obviously have NOT gotten all the leaks, or you wouldn't be losing oil.

1. Rings are dead - not as hard to replace those as it seems.
2. Valve guides - pull the head and have it looked at by a head specialist or machine shop.
3. Cracked or broken piston - same as replacing the rings.
at the rate you're losing oil check for leaks. if you're going through that much oil you've got a much more serious problem.
degrease your motor. (engine degreaser) get it all squeaky clean and set a piece of cardboard under the motor and start 'er up and let 'er run. look EVERYWHERE for oil spots while the car is running.

if you come to the conclusion that any of the above ^ is wrong (i`m making the assumption you have a stock motor, and have never done a build) don`t waste your time and go spend $650 for a fresh LS longblock, the easiest and most affordable solution... (besides you`ll have a motor to part out, make you green back..)
