one more thing, should I go with the H23 tranny? Ive heard the different gear ratio would make it quicker. Not planning on boosting, just stock.

If the gearing is better for what you want go for it. Just make sure everthing's compatible. I really don't know about H motors. If you need some help lemme know.

Dont drive it with second gone like that.
A piece of the gear could get stuck in others. Like when youre cruising down the interstate at 60mph. Trans locks, engine stalls, wheels stop. Dangerous.

Well if he has a decent mechanical knowledge, it's not that hard to fix a honda trans. I don't know what a good used H22 tranny goes for, but you can buy the sychros pretty cheap, and sometimes the shift forks too. Sounds like the sychro went or the blocker rings on the splined gear might have failed. If he's got a factory manual all it'll really cost is some rtv for the gasket, and the cost of the sychro...saying that's all that's messed up.
